"Take Us For Granite!"

Quarrying granite in Brazil

Granite is type of rock known as igneous rock. Igneous rocks are formed when molten lava (magma) cools and turn to solid rock. Quartz, alkali feldspar and plagioclase feldspar are the three primary minerals found in granite. Granite is available in a multitude of colors depending upon the mineral content. The grains of the many minerals interlock like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, making granite strong and durable. This feature, combined with beauty, economics, and ecology makes granite very popular for kitchen countertops, tables, bathroom vanities, fireplace hearths and many other areas

The price of granite has dropped dramatically over the last few decades as new quarry, fabrication and installation technology has become available. Consequently, the price of granite is now very competitive with the price of many man-made materials. Unlike man-made products, which will need to be replaced or upgraded several times over the life span of a home or building, granite can last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.

Historically, granite has been quarried as far back as 4000 BC – long before hardened metals were used. It is quarried in many parts of the world including the United States of America, with the majority of stone coming from Brazil. Some other parts of the world that granite comes from include:  India, Canada, Africa, Finland, China, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Australia, Italy, Madagascar, and Iran.
